What is Pyrite?

Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral with a metallic luster. It consists of a brassy colouring similar to gold. This similarity has landed Pyrite the name of "Fool's Gold". It comes from the cubic crystal system and has an opaque transparency and brittle texture. The meaning of Pyrite is purity and creativity unblocking.

Pyrite's meaning comes from the Greek word Pyr, which translates to fire- a reflection of how the light catches on the surface of the stone.

Despite its illustrious name, Pyrite is actually an earth stone rich in iron sulfide- sourced from the far reaches of Namibia, the mystical lands of Peru, the golden mountains of Spain and Mexico and the icy trenches of Canada. With shades varying from pale brass to rich gold in colour, Pyrite is a gorgeous stone that holds its own when it comes to dazzling metallic luster.

In homage to its name, Pyrite is one of the only healing crystals that may produce a spark if struck hard enough. Far from fools gold, Pyrite will enhance and multiply the powers of its beholder.
